About About Health Law & Innovation Research Group

Housed within the Lincoln Alexander School of Law’s Justice & Technology Initiative, the Health Law & Innovation Research Group is a research network directed by Professor Katie Hammond and Professor Uchechukwu Ngwaba. The Group aims to build interdisciplinary bridges from across the university with scholars working on topics related to health, medicine and new technologies. It is interested in how medical innovation, new technologies, and legal, regulatory and policy reforms can promote health inclusion, improve the health of marginalized populations, and achieve health equity.

In developing advocacy around this focus, the Group aims to identify and collaborate with key stakeholders, partners, community organizations, practitioners, academics, experts, international and domestic human rights organizations etc., to promote conversations and action geared towards achieving health equity in the Canadian context and beyond.

Our Goals

To draw attention to how medical innovations, new technologies, and legal, regulatory and policy reforms can promote health equity and improve the health of marginalized populations.

To foster collaboration in health law between academics, practitioners, and the community.

To train and mentor a new generation of health lawyers.
